Application of hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is an important component of the synovial fluid (joint fluid) and operates as a lubricant during all joint movements. Hyaluronic acid is also found in the extracellular cartilage matrix where it executes a number of chemical/physical tasks, such as water retention as well as pressure resistance.

Patients with arthritis and insufficient synovial fluid receive injections of biomechanically manufactured hyaluronic acid. This hyaluronic acid is nearly equivalent to the natural, bodies’ own fluid. The injections improve the lubrication of the joint, reduce inflammatory effects and help to reduce pain.
