DNA - property of Wikipedia

Human DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a gigantic long-chain biomolecule composed of around 3.2 billion modules, the so-called nucleotides. Nucleotides are small molecules that are made up of one phosphate, one sugar and one base component. We know 5 base components: Adenine A, Guanine G, Cytosine C, Thymine T and Uracil U, together they can build 5 different nucleotides. 3 connected nucleotides build the smallest information unit of the human genetic code, the so-called codon. One codon is practically a brief blue print of an amino acid. Various amino acids are the ground component of various proteins. Proteins are large biological molecules and the major building material of all cells; they fulfill the most vital functions. One gene is – simplified – a defined distance on the DNA, which is responsible for the assembly of proteins.
